A number of court cases have been filed which use certain conspiracy theories as a central argument in the litigation. These
qui tam cases, filed against private contractors, airlines, and the US government allege negligence, deception, or complicity
in the 9/11 attacks.Ellen Mariani, the widow of a 9/11 victim, filed suit in 2001 against United Airlines and President George
W. Bush, seeking "the truth of what happened on Sept. 11", and claiming damages under the RICO act, and for negligence.Former
Dole chief of staff, Stanley Hilton, filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of 400 families of 9/11 victims, alleging that
"George W. Bush allow[ed] the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 to take place, [...] in order to rally the country into
a frenzy...",but it was dismissed in 2004 based upon the theory of "sovereign immunity."
